Anyone who has attended the World Congress on Stuttering and Cluttering comes away energized by the experience. The opportunities to interact with others who are so passionate about understanding and treating stuttering are invaluable. Meeting with other researchers and clinicians from so many different countries is motivating. This is such a great opportunity to learn about stuttering, develop new research ideas, and to make important professional contacts.
Though I was not able to attend the Congress in Lisbon, reading these papers makes it clear that valuable work was shared. I feel very fortunate to had had the opportunity to be the editor for these proceedings. Included here are many short articles highlighting the great work that was obviously presented at this meeting.
These papers represent the richness of this congress, with papers covering the range of stuttering research being done and produced by researchers from around the globe. These papers will provide the reader a sample on the important work being done to understand and help people who stutter.
I would like to thank the authors for submitting their work and we are all indebted to the time it takes to write research in this brief (limited pages) fashion. Also, we all owe our gratitude to the many individuals who assisted in the review of these papers. The reviews took a significant amount of time, and it should be noted that the reviewers were both careful and detailed in their feedback to the authors. I believe all of the papers were greatly improved because of the time spent by these experts who volunteered their time.
In closing, I hope you enjoy these Proceedings. Not only are these papers of high quality, I think they also may serve as a motivator to not only continue our own research, but also to attend the next World Congress on Stuttering and Cluttering!
